The present co-chairmen of the club are Tom Hicks and George Gillett. Thomas O. Hicks is a Dallas businessman. His wealth is about $1.3 billion USD. George N. Gillett Jr. II is an American businessman. He is also owner of the ice hockey team Montreal Canadiens and the NASCAR auto racing team Gillett Evernham Motorsports. The current manager is Rafael ("Rafa") Benítez Maudes. He is a former football player (Castilla, Parla, Linares). Before the Liverpool he was a manager of such teams as: Castilla Youth B (1986-1989), Real Madrid Youth B (1989-1991), Real Madrid U-19s (1991-1993), Real Madrid B (1993-1995), Valladolid (1995-1996), Osasuna (1996-1997), Extremadura (1997-1999), Tenerife (2000-2001), Valencia (2001-2004). The Reds have the academy. It was opened in 1998 in Kirkby. The director is Steve Heighway, the former Liverpool FC player. The Academy has five full-size pitches, seven smaller pitches and an indoor arena. Also it includes a lecture theatre and a computer-equipped classroom.
