Mark Noble's injury-time penalty gave West Ham a deserved victory over Liverpool at Upton Park. Noble slotted the ball low past Pepe Reina with virtually the last kick of the match after Jamie Carragher had brought down Freddie Ljungberg. Earlier, West Ham's Luis Boa Morte twice missed from six yards out while Xabi Alonso headed on to his own bar.

Steven Gerrard's hat-trick helped Liverpool to a 5-0 win over League One side Luton in their FA Cup third round replay at Anfield. The Hatters collapsed after going behind to a late first-half goal from Ryan Babel. Sami Hyypia was also on the scoresheet to give manager Rafael Benitez some breathing space after the shock revelation that Jurgen Klinsmann had been sounded out about the possibility of becoming the club's next manager. Benitez selected a strong side, knowing defeat was not an option after the shock admission from co-owner Tom Hicks.

The game in a draw against Boro

A fantastic second half equalizer from Fernando Torres has earned Liverpool a point at the Riverside Stadium after they had trailed to a first half goal from Middlesbrough captain George Boateng. Torres 17th goal of the season came just in the nick of time for the Reds and what a goal it was. Liverpool had trailed since the 26th minute of the first half when Boateng struck, but Torres scored a priceless equalizer, thundering the ball in off the post from 25 yards.

Embattled Luton put in a superb display against a weakened Liverpool to earn an FA Cup third-round replay at Anfield on Tuesday week. The League One side were the better team in the first-half but could not convert their pressure into goals. But Peter Crouch's simple finish gave Liverpool a second-half lead under the gaze of England manager Fabio Capello.

The Reds vs Man City - goalless game

Manchester City survived a second-half onslaught to prevent Liverpool ending 2007 with three league wins in a row. Fabio Aurelio came closest to scoring in a cagey first half, his long-range strike tipped over by City's Joe Hart. Fernando Torres squandered two good chances and Hart palmed away a fierce effort from Yossi Benayoun as the Reds poured forward after the interval.

Derby were beaten by The Reds

Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard scored on either side of the half time interval while the spirited Rams got a goal from James McEveley. The Reds performance overall left a lot to be desired for and manager Rafa Benitez will be relieved that his side earned full points, thanks to the last-gasp winner from skipper Gerrard. The Rams, who are at rock-bottom in the table, had a great chance to cash in on a defensive error from the visitors early in the game but Kenny Miller was guilty of going for glory himself from a tight angle and only saw the ball sail over the bar.

Liverpool won game against Portsmouth

Liverpool have made the perfect start to their festive programme with a well deserved 4-1 victory over Portsmouth at Anfield. The game was all but over as a contest inside the first quarter of an hour as the Reds raced into a two goal lead thanks to a Yossi Benayoun volley and an own goal from Sylvain Distin, and although Pompey reduced the deficit shortly after the break top scorer Fernando Torres struck a brilliant double to end hopes of an unlikely comeback to seal the points with his thirteenth and fourteenth goals of the campaign.

Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch saw red as Chelsea won 2-0 to progress to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup thanks to second-half strikes from Frank Lampard and Andriy Shevchenko. Lampard's deflected 59th minute opener was followed, seconds later, by a moment of madness from Crouch who was red-carded for a disgraceful two-footed lunge on Mikel John Obi.

For the second season running, a close-range goal in front of the Kop proved enough to give Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. Whereas John O'Shea's goal in the corresponding fixture came in stoppage time and spurred United on to the title, this time the first half was nearing its end when Carlos Tevez struck.

Marseille were beaten by The Reds 0-4

Liverpool overwhelmed Marseille to win a third successive Champions League Group A game and reach the last 16. Steven Gerrard won a penalty on four minutes and although his spot-kick was saved by Steve Mandanda, the Liverpool captain crashed home the rebound. Fernando Torres then scored a superb solo goal, beating a posse of Marseille players before curling the ball in.

Reading handed Liverpool their first league defeat of the season as they claimed a richly deserved home win. Stephen Hunt's penalty put Reading in front after Jamie Carragher fouled Brynjar Gunnarsson, but Steven Gerrard soon equalised with a cool finish. Liverpool hit the bar through Gerrard, but Kevin Doyle's glancing header on 58 minutes put Reading back in front.

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten Barclays Premier League record, made it five successive wins and continued to rattle in the goals with a 4-0 victory over Bolton. After demolishing Bolton, they have scored 21 goals in that five-game run to move into third place in the table, a point behind Chelsea with a game in hand. In a week that has seen boss Rafael Benitez seemingly settle his public dispute with the club's American owners, his side have been in tip-top form. Four goals against Porto, four against a dispirited Bolton has dispelled any lingering doubts about Benitez's side.

Cesc Fabregas scored with 10 minutes remaining to secure a point at Liverpool on Sunday and take Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League. Arsène Wenger's side had trailed since the seventh minute when Steven Gerrard rifled a free-kick through the visitors' wall and past Manuel Almunia.This game had already been billed as a massive mid-term examination of Arsenal's studious young outfit. But although they responded with a wonderfully mature performance, even Wenger himself would have been shifting nervously in his seat before Fabregas raced on to a through-ball from the excellent Alex Hleb to equalise.The draw halted that superb run of 12 straight wins but it did extend Arsenal's unbeaten run to 23 games over this season and last.

Liverpool kept alive their dreams of snatching the fourth Champions League spot from rivals Everton by winning a sensational Merseyside derby 2-1 at Anfield. Rafael Benitez's side had Milan Baros sent off and lost Fernando Morientes, Dietmar Hamann and Stephen Warnock to injury but held on to cut the gap between the two clubs to five points. Ahead through Steven Gerrard and Luis Garcia at the break, it was a battle for survival from then on, but they claimed the points and subsequently reclaimed fifth spot from Bolton.

Liverpool were beaten by Marseille 0-1

Mathieu Valbuena scored a brilliant goal as Marseille beat an out-of-sorts Liverpool in the Champions League. Valbuena's 20-yard strike after 77 minutes left Pepe Reina stranded and clipped the woodwork on its way in. Mamadou Niang, who had several shots saved, was harshly flagged offside in a move that ended with Karim Ziani putting the ball in the net. A Yossi Benayoun header was deflected wide and Fernando Torres hit the post as Liverpool rallied after conceding. But it was a performance that was woefully below the required standard by Liverpool, who rarely threatened until the final minutes of the match.

Yossi Benayoun was the match winner in a hard-fought encounter between Wigan and Liverpool at the JJB Stadium. The Israeli midfielder came off the bench to show great composure to net Liverpool's 75th minute winner in a 1-0 victory. Shots at goal were at a premium throughout the 90 minutes, but Wigan will feel aggrieved to have lost the encounter.

Birmingham unashamedly strung 10 men across their own penalty area at times and fought like lions for a point.

Despite their error-strewn first-half performance, Dirk Kuyt pulled Liverpool level with a close-range header.

Portsmouth were impressive and John Utaka should have at least hit the target from 14 yards.
